Anaerobic digestion (AD) is the solution to many peoples' problems. By bacterial breakdown of organic waste without oxygen, we can produce renewable biogas and a high grade inert fertiliser. The USA produces a huge quantity of waste. Coupling this with the drive of municipalities and large food producers to send no organic waste to landfill, the resource is remarkably abundant. The market is growing, and the technology is developing. This traction is even leading Waste Water Treatment Facilities to look at how to utilize their AD as a revenue stream.
There are challenges however. As ever in this economic environment, attaining finance is difficult. The very successful European business model does not apply in the US because the price of natural gas is three times cheaper. This means that in order to make the investment viable - often other revenue streams need to be explored and taken advantage of. In the waste haulage industry, much of revenue relies on competing on the tipping fee market. In agriculture, where the feedstock produces high quality fertilizer, this is another route to market which is proving as a valuable growth area. Unfortunately, even with a business model that works, this may all be made useless if feedstocks commitments cannot be aquired, the right location cannot be found or permits cannot be awarded.
Thankfully, the 2nd annual Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Conference is about to set all of these issues straight to lead to make your organic waste profitable by using anaerobic digestion. Through months of research, an agenda has been tailor made to fit with your industry concerns and needs. Novi Energy, a successful operator of a large combi-digestor joins Harvest Power and Zero Waste Energy amongst others to show how to make AD work. Union Bank shows us what investors need and Southern Californian Edison explains how to work with utilities. The Grocery Manufacturers Association moderates a panel which includes Wal-Mart and Anheuser-Busch.
To maximise the effect of your stay in San Francisco, we have partnered with the American Biogas Council to deliver a top quality technical workshop the day after the conference.
